Off the grid for a while...
It’s been a pretty busy couple of weeks. The final manuscript for the baseball book was sent off to The Kent State University Press today. (This will be my last book project for a few years.) I completed write-ups for two of Mort Kunstler’s new paintings, my book on Confederate camps has been selected as the upcoming March title on the Rappahannock Regional Library’s new Sesquicentennial website, National Geographic Books contacted Right Stripe Media to assist with some imagery for a piece they are doing on Richard Kirkland, and BIG things are on the horizon for the Billy The Kid documentary. I am still dealing with some serious health issues and will be off the grid for a while. I may post some updates intermittently as my body will permit, but for the most part I need to concentrate on getting well. This has been a recurring issue for the last 3 months and I'm not getting better. One thing that I did want to mention in closing was that the U.S. Marshals Service are commemorating the actions of the USCT for Black History Month (see here). I was very pleased to see no mention of “Thousands of Black Confederates” on any of the acknowledgements.
Rounding third and headed home
My apologies for the lack of posts but I am having the best time working on finalizing the baseball book files for delivery to the publisher. The archivists at the Baseball Hall of Fame have been great to work with and this has shaped up to be a project that far exceeds Eric’s and my initial expectations. Frankly, it’s the most in-depth book that I’ve ever been a part of and most people associated with the project have said that this title will more than likely generate more reaction and sales than anything we’ve ever done on the Civil War. The hard part will be waiting for its release prior to the 2012 season. We are also planning on developing a website to compliment the book.

Pines Bridge Project Update
Our friend and guest-blogger Michael Kahn sent an update on his efforts to honor a unique Continental regiment and their commander by erecting three statues commemorating the soldiers and officers of the First Rhode Island Regiment (Details Here). According to Michael they have narrowed down the list of potential sculptors to four talented artists and are planning on having the finalists selected and a design made public by next month. Donations will continue to be petitioned throughout the process. A formal press release will follow. Michael also sent a PDF of the pamphlet that their town planner has made up for public dissemination (View Here). We will keep you updated on this special project as it progresses. The First Rhode Island Regiment’s contributions are a unique and important part of our Nation’s story that demands this kind of preservation and presentation.
