I have mentioned that one of the main sources for AABT’s wheelchair tours is Frank O’Reilly’s tremendous book
The Fredericksburg Campaign: Winter War on the Rappahannock. This has become, by far, my favorite Civil War title and I am working my way through it a second time while selecting some new tidbits to incorporate into our tours, more specifically, little known events that transpired near Prospect Hill and the Slaughter Pen Farm. I drive past both of these sites twice a day, every day. That countryside has become part of my commute’s daily scenery and it often blends into the rest of the background. That is until I’m doing what I’m doing right now, studying the details and accounts of the battles that transpired there. Suddenly I find myself having trouble keeping my eyes on the road. As a result, I am working on a detailed post about the Bernard Slave Cabins. Until then, here is a spot that I recorded on the site for local talk-radio.
