Remembering Relatives

Last week 60 descendants of Revolutionary War patriots gathered here in Fredericksburg to commemorate the lives and legacies of their forefathers with a special parade. It’s nice to see this era get some attention as the Civil War understandably dominates our local history scene. According to speaker Mayor Thomas Tomzak, “Our city is rightly proud of its history, and does not forget the sacrifices of its Revolutionary heroes, nor groups such as yours who remember and preserve her memories and her ideals,” Tomzak told members of the Virginia Society, Sons of the American Revolution gathered in the square with their wives and a six-member color guard. “Our city is pleased to welcome your society to the very streets and square used in Colonial and Revolutionary times.” Our friend Clint Schemmer of The Free Lance-Star penned an article on the event that you can read here.
