Gilmore Cabin, Charlottesville, Virginia
Gilmore Cabin, Charlottesville, Virginia

This photo is of the Gilmore Family Cabin. George Gilmore was a slave at James Madison’s plantation Montpelier. Following the end of the Civil War, George opted to stay in the South and use the skills that he had obtained over fifteen years of bondage to create his own farm. His homestead stands less than a mile down the road from Montpelier. This quaint setting reminded me of a Bob Ross painting and I loved the simplicity of the design and construction of the cabin.
