This photograph is a detail from my favorite marker of all, the Virginia Monument at Gettysburg Battlefield. At the base of what is considered to be the best equestrian statue ever created of Robert E. Lee stand this lone group of Confederate soldiers. I used another perspective from this scene as the proposed cover for my third book “The Southern Cross.” Nothing in my mind personifies the glorious South more than these noble Sons of the Old Dominion.
