Fort Macon, Outer Banks NC

This photo was taken of the interior wall at Fort Macon in North Carolina. This mammoth stronghold was constructed from over 9.3 million bricks and was occupied by both Confederate and Federal Forces during the war. Today, Fort Macon is considered one of the most pristine of all Civil War era beach forts. Note the seagull perched on the gun battery.
